A revised version of MISRA C:2012 is now available in both hardcopy and PDF formats. This revised version consolidates the 2012 edition with Amendment 1 (Additional Security Guidelines) that was published in 2016, and the 2017 Technical Corrigendum 1.

The revised document is available now to purchase from the webstore, and PDF versions purchased from today (5 March 2019) will also deliver the new edition. If you previously purchased MISRA C, we regret that upgrades to single-user PDFs are not available, but the Technical Corrigendum and Amendment 1 are still available as a standalone document from the Resources section of this Bulletin Board.
The MISRA C Working Group are pleased to announce the publication of two Addenda to the MISRA C:2012 guidelines.

The 2nd edition of MISRA C:2012 Addendum 2 (Coverage of MISRA C:2012 against ISO/IEC TS 17961:2013 "C Secure") updates the document to include coverage provided by Amendment 1 (Additional security guidelines for MISRA C:2012).

MISRA C:2012 Addendum 3 (Coverage of MISRA C:2012 against CERT C) provides an analysis of the coverage provided by MISRA C:2012 (including Amendment 1) against the recommendations provided by CERT C.

Together, these two documents demonstrate that MISRA C provides best practice guidelines for the development of secure applications, as well as the widely considered applicability of MISRA C for safety-related systems.

Future work within the MISRA C Working Group on the Standard Library for Hosted Applications, and to add the new features of C11 are underway, and will enhance the coverage of MISRA C in these areas.

Both documents are available as free downloads from the "Resources" section of this Bulletin Board.

If you have questions on the new Guidelines then they can be asked under the relevant forum topic (e.g. a question about Rule 12.5 should be added under "MISRA C > MISRA C:2012 guidelines > 8.12 Expressions").

MISRA is very pleased to today that the next edition of MISRA C Guidelines for the use of the C language in critical systems, to be known as MISRA C:2012, is now available from the MISRA webstore. PDF copies are available to purchase, with print copies available to pre-order with dispatch starting on 8 April 2013.

MISRA C:2012 extends support to the C99 version of the C language (while maintaining guidelines for C90), in addition to including a number of improvements that can reduce the cost and complexity of compliance, whilst aiding consistent, safe use of C in critical systems. Improvements, many of which have been made as a result of user feedback, include: better rationales for every guideline, identified decidability so users can better interpret the output of checking tools, greater granularity of rules to allow more precise control, a number of expanded examples and integration of MISRA AC AGC. A cross reference for ISO 26262 has also been produced.

This document has now been superseded by MISRA Compliance:2016. The following description is retained for archival purposes.

MISRA is pleased to announce the availability of an additional resource for MISRA C, MISRA C ADC Approved deviation compliance for MISRA C:2004.

MISRA C is intended to be used within the framework of a disciplined software development process. The MISRA C:2004 guidelines (Section 4.3.2) permit controlled deviation from the rules when software safety and/or quality requirements cannot otherwise be satisfied.

It should be understood that a deviation can only be adequately justified when supported by information such as:

An appropriate reason for the need to raise a deviation;

A description of the extent to which a relaxation of the rule is being introduced;

An argument to support the reasons for the deviation;

Measures which must be observed to ensure safety and/or quality.

MISRA C ADC was a technical note that was a first step in describing the requirements in greater detail. It focused solely on the first of these topics, the common reasons for raising a deviation.

MISRA is very pleased to announced today at Embedded World that the next edition of MISRA C Guidelines for the use of the C language in critical systems, to be known as MISRA C:2012, will be available from the MISRA webstore from 18 March 2013. Initially PDF copies will be available to purchase, with print copies available about 2 weeks later.

We are very pleased to announce that a tutorial and seminar in collaboration with the Safety-Critical Systems Club (SCSC) will be held on 24 and 25 November 2010 in London, UK. On the first day there will be two half-day tutorials, on the MISRA C and MISRA C++ guidelines for the use of these languages in critical systems. The second day will be a seminar that will consider how the MISRA guidelines support safety-related systems development in various industry sectors, and we are particularly keen to feature presentations of case studies. If you would like to speak at this seminar, please discuss your idea with me in the first instance.

Further details of the programme will be available in due course.

There will also be a small exhibition on the second day. Details of the exhibition are available from Joan Atkinson at the SCSC.
